CRAFT STAMPER - DECEMBER ISSUE

Here's my project in Craft Stamper's December 2010 issue - the theme was packaging, in turquoise.

The secret here was to use lots of tags, both stamped and in chipboard, and really festoon the package. I also tied the wired ribbon in one direction, knotted the ribbon and left long ends - then tied a second piece in the opposite direction. This gave me two lengths to tie off in really extravagant bows, looping the ribbon through the strings of the tags.

This is an idea I've done variations on over the years: my husband (now 60) is worse than a child of 3 at Christmas... poking, prodding and shaking packages, trying to get the tape off without me noticing... I now get my own back by putting prezzies under the tree at least a week before The Day, with so much ribbon etc on them, that he cannot get into them without a Swiss Army Knife and possibly a flame thrower.

It puts him in a fever of expectation, makes the presents look a lot more important than they actually are (last year's were 3 DVDs and a pair of gorilla slippers) and he really has fun getting into them when it's finally time. Plus I have a lot of fun doing them.

This package is recycled brown wrapping paper, sprayed with Ranger's Dye Spray in Bottle & Turquoise, lightened with an overspray of Glimmer Mist. So not particularly expensive re paper - plus I get back the tags and the snowflakes and the ribbon (he's really good about things like that) so I can use them again for something.

Hope this project gives you some ideas!

  1. I bet there's nothing in that gorgeous parcel!!! It is something I would dream of receiving even if it had just a yard of ribbon within it's beautiful exterior. That is a perfect example of how to make nothing look enticing!

  2. Jo - how did you guess it's an empty box? (It's not because I'm mean, but because I had to post it and then it's going in BladeRubber's window).

You're entirely too clever, lol - you're supposed to imagine it's full of Very Expensive chocolate!
